My Creative Scrapbook_May Reveal_Limited Edition_

I can't tell you how thrilled I was to invited back as a Guest Team Designer at MY CREATIVE SCRAPBOOK this month to work with the always fabulous Limited Edition kit for May. You would not believe all the delicious papers and embellishments that come in this kit! I have been sitting on the edge of my seat in anticipation waiting for the reveal and today is the day! This kit features the gorgeous Fancy Pants "Road Show" collection along with some Graphic45 papers. It is chock full of beautiful Prima blooms, along with paper roses and a beautiful assortment of trim.

While there is a waiting list for this gorgeous kit, Pam adds people every month and assures us it is no where near the year's wait some have heard rumored, and as you can see, the short wait is well worth it. ON THIS DAY... it's all about you.

The photo is of my step-daughter Katie on her wedding day last April. I love the way this kit could be used for Shabby Chic elegance and romance to lighthearted charm and everyday fun. I hope I demonstrated both in my work.

I did a lot of hand cutting on this page, including the title, clocks, leaves and some of the swirls. The black corner swirl is a rub on. I also distressed the clocks with my Heidi Grace tool and then inked, adding my own Prima E-line pearls to the centers, the only thing on this page that was not included in the kit. You could accomplish the same look with puffy paint. I also used a Fiskars embossing border punch.

I just love the sticker and rub on sheets that were included in this kit. The hearts are stickers and "love" is a rub on. The black swirl is cut from patterned paper.


FLIGHT OF FANCY

I love this fanciful photo of Katie on her wedding day that is so suited to these magically romantic papers. As you can see, I was not exaggerating about the flowers included in this kit! One might think I used them all on this one page, but one would be wrong!

The strip border was so much fun to do. I began by using a Fiskars embossing border punch on the edge of plain white card stock then taking a single hole punch and punching a pair of holes as close together as I could at about 1.5" intervals to weave the pink ribbon through. I then place the leaves and roses over the the punched holes. The roses were included in the kit, and I made my own leaves by sketching them on white card stock, spraying them with English Ivy Glimmer Mist before cutting them out, and then distressing the edges with black ink and sketching in the lines with both a black pen and a Signo white gel pen.

This kit also included 2 sheets of transparencies, which included the frame you see here as well as the gorgeous sheet of velvet black that you can catch glimpses of through most of my layouts.

I used a Signo pen and white puffy glue on the border, and another of the transparencies in the corner. The black alphabets also came in the kit. The swirl inside the circle is hand cut from a sheet of pp. I used Fiskars deco-edge scissors for the pink border, distressing with a Heidi Grace distress tool and then inking.


SIT QUIETLY... do nothing.


The kit came with both a resin overlay frame and paper frame and I love them both! This layout features the paper frame and is of my lovely future daughter-in-law contemplating El Dora do in her native Colombia when she took my son to visit last summer.


The journal square is part of the kit and I simply popped it up with foam squares and embellished it with puffy glue. The kit also included the lovely mini Prima floral stem that I divided. I made the pink torn circle flowers using a tutorial posted by Gabrielle Pallacco at MCS. I made the ribbon flowers by sewing a running stitch up one side of a 12" strip of the trims that were included in the kit and gathering them. The button center was also part of the kit, though I added my own string. The decorative centers are rub ons that I attached to white card stock and then cut out and attached with glue dots.

I just love the vintage frame and oval of lace that came in this kit! I used some of the velvet transparency behind the frame and cut the word "cherish" from the Prima flower backing. I cut the little decorative piece on the lace oval from patterned paper and added a touch of pink with the puffy paint.


YOUTH
This layout features the transparency frame for a completely different effect. The photo is of my niece, Paige, and her college friend. The design is from a challenge sketch by Julie Bonner at MCS that everyone should check out!

I just love all the gorgeous Prima flowers that came in this kit. This page uses one branch of the mini stem that I divided. I also used several Martha Stewart border punches on this layout and words cut from the Prima packaging.

I love the sheet of journaling tags that comes with this kit. I cut around this one with deco-edge Fiskars scissors and inked. I'm sorry that I don't have the brand name of the stamp with me. The pretty hat pins in this kit can be used in so many fun ways, and I love the pop of color they bring.


MEMORIES
The photo is of my niece Paige and her life time friends who we consider members of our family since they have been camping, 4-wheeling, etc. with us since they were children.


I used Fiskar deco-edge scissors for the outside border and Martha Stewart punches for the border strips and photo frame. The butterflies are Silhouette cuts. This kit had so many gorgeous trims that are showcased particularly in this layout. My photo doesn't show it well, but the cream and pink ribbon I wove through the paper together look so gorgeous in real life and blend so beautifully with the patterned ribbon as well.


For the flower I tore a circle and then petals, inking with red, for the base, then sewed a ribbon flower from a small section of the lace included in the kit for the center. The button and hat pin were also in the kit, but I added my own string.

The papers, pearls and rub ons for this page were all from the kit, but I added my own trims and flower centers.


I had so much fun cutting, layering, punching, gluing, distressing, inking, stitching and embellishing on that large flower!

TCR #4

I used 2 different versions of this week's color challenge at The Color Room and 2 different versions of the sketch as well. The first is of my daughter-in-law's graduation from the College of Eastern Utah on May 1, 2010. We are so very proud of her for this big step. Not only did she graduate while working part time and being a wife and mother to my two darling grand kids, but she was also selected for her Accounting/Business department's student of the year award.

After 79 years, this was also the final graduation of the College of Eastern Utah. It is being merged with Utah State University and expanding the satellite distance education campus where I am currently employed. Come July it will be called by the unimaginative name "Utah State University College of Eastern Utah." Wonder how many people will actually say all that!


For this layout I used Best Creation Inc. paper for the background and Bazzil cardstock. The blooms are all by Prima, as are the E-line pearls. I used a template and Tim Holtz black ink dabber to do the lines. I also did the distressing and journal outline with the paint dabber, using a Silhouette cut as a template for the journal spot. I also used the Silhouette to cut the title. The web trim is by May Arts.

a moment to cherish

This is my mom meeting her great grandson, my little Gar-bear, for the first time in Feb. 2007.

This page is heavily influenced by the style of Gabrielle Pallacco. It is loaded with PRIMA products from the Shabby Chic and Raspberry Tea collections as well as the lovely blooms. I also used my SILHOUETTE for the title and a MARTHA STEWART punch.

My Creative Scrapbook LE sneak peek

I was so delighted to be invited back this month to work with the talented team at My Creative Scrapbook, especially on the Limited Edition kit, which is so jam packed with beautiful paper and such a wide variety of embellishments that all go together so beautifully. You will not believe the flowers, lace and ribbon! From this one kit I was able to do 5 layouts and 2 cards and still have paper left over to do another layout with some of my own embellishments! I have included a sample of each one of my 5 pages on this post. Even though the embellishments and papers go together so beautifully, it is amazing to see how different each designer's page's look so it is often hard to tell they came from the same kit. I can't wait for everyone to see the reveal on May 5th at http://www.mycreativescrapbook.com/gallery.htm, not only of the gorgeous Limited Edition kit, but for all the fabulous kits offered at MCS. There is one suited to every style of scrapbooker!

sentimental memories

Some old photos from my sister's wedding at the Homestead in northern Utah back in 1996. It was so very beautiful! The left hand photo is her and her new hubby, along with Paige. The right hand photo is of me with my youngest son, Matt, who was the ring bearer and looked so cute in his tux.

This page is loaded with Prima goodies. The papers are from the "Shabby Chic" and "Raspberry Tea" collections. The blooms are "Quarry" tea rose and "Athena -Aurora" collections. The "Tres Jolie miniature vines are just perfect for circles.





The butterflies are some I scanned from Webster's Pages and hand cut. The gate is a Silhouette cut. The lace is more of the gorgeous collections I purchased from "a million memories.com." The rub-ons are "Vintage Love" by Glitz.

"max @ whiskers"

I put together this series of pages from the fabulous BASIC GREY "max and whiskers" collection lickety split the other night. Above are my two sons with our cocker spaniel Bailey. Every year when they came back from their summer visit with their dad I had a surprise waiting, and this was a big year because not only did I have this adopted pup, but had moved out of the apartments we had been living in and into a house where I had fixed up a room for each of my three boys. We lost Bailey to old age a couple of years ago.

When my sister Catherine and Brooke joined to make a family they brought together "big dog" Ray, and "little dog" Lily, who are pictured above getting a bath. Below Lil can be seen making herself quite at home in a way Ray cannot!

I love to scrapbook.

Please allow me to introduce you to my shadow, DC, our Burmese Velcro kitty. "DC" originally stood for "Devil Cat." Russ picked her out at the animal shelter and named her partially for her color and partially because he likes the band "ACDC" and our yellow tom cat, Arthur Cat, is the "AC" part of the equation. The two of them have an electric relationship that reminds me of the one my oldest two sons had as youngsters. Just 13 months apart in age, they could not be more different in appearance and personality. Bryant has been the strong, silent type since he was a baby while Ben has always been a tease from hell. He would pester and torment his big brother until Bryant had taken all he could and then Ben would run to me to save him from the wrath he eventually incurred.

Since DC has always been at the bottom of the pecking order, it used to be that when she came tearing across my lap with Arthur on her heels, I would capture him and toss him out the door to save her. It was some time before I realized that this was Ben and Bryant all over again. I witnessed Arthur walk innocently past DC, who was perched on the couch, and watched as she reached out, took his tail between her paws and bit! Then she came running to me for help when he responded!




The pecking order came into question when our long haired Birman, Duchess, had her first hair cut. Being the eldest, and royalty, she was accustomed to ruling the roost. Her long hair and big lions' ruff helped her pull this off since it camouflaged her size and lent her dignity. She was 13-years old at the time of her first hair cut and it was entirely due to the matted condition of her hair which could no longer be combed. I was, myself, shocked at how tiny she is underneath all that fur!

If you don't believe cat's have emotions then you have not seen a humiliated, shorn alpha duchess! She was as embarrassed as anyone caught naked and retreated to her throne, (the back of our recliner), with a defensive glare. DC, the hero of this narrative, went strolling by, caught a glance of Dutch out of the corner of her eye, and I swear to god, stopped short in her tracks, backed up, sat directly in front of her highness and gazed with rapt bemusement until Dutch could stand it no more and hissed. Completely unruffled, DC rose at her leisure, raised her tail with the air of someone newly promoted and strode away with a new confidence and authority in her stride!



While I enjoy her companionship while we scrap together, I must be extremely diligent in closing DC out of our scrap room while I am away since she prefers the entire house as her canvas for her independent work.

On this collaboration we used BASIC GREY "max @ whiskers" collection pack, along with our won flourishes created with transparency paper, fabric glue and patterns scanned from Prima flourishes as well as some PETALOO blooms. We used FISKARS deco-edge scissors for the circle border. A special thank you to the talented NikkARNGwife @ Scrapbook.com from whom I lifted this design.
