Life's Portrait

Paige and some of her friends and more of my April MY CREATIVE SCRAPBOOK kit. This it the vellum sheet, something that I always struggle with. I know it is vellum for a reason, but I almost always end up using it like any other piece of patterned paper because I just don't quite know what to do with it. I trimmed the outer edges of the vellum sheet just slightly wider than the white card stock that I placed beneath it, which I also trimmed just enough to leave the peach colored border on the outside. In real life it gives an interesting shading to the border which is hard to see here.

I have had so many scrappers express to me their reluctance to cut into the gorgeous Webster's Pages patterned papers, and I know just what they mean, but that is one of the great things about WP! While they are beautiful enough in their original form that a casual scrapper can just add their pictures and an embellishment or 2 and have a gorgeous page, those of us who are more, shall we say passionate, about scrapbooking as an art form, can cut out elements, rearranging, mixing, and layering to create pages that are unique to us and sometimes barely resemble the original pp. The birdcage above was cut from one sheet of pp, and the bird and flourished circle from and entirely different pp. I lifted them both on foam pop up adhesives.

I also cut the title from a sheet of pp. The ribbon flowers were made my using thread and needle to stitch a running stitch up one side of the ribbon, then gently gathering it and attaching the ends with a final stitch to connect the 2 ends in a circle to which I attached the PRIMA rose with a glue dot.

The border is a MARTHA STEWART punch. I wove the ribbon through 2 closely punched holes, a technique I learned from a picture tutorial on Gabrielle Pollacco's blog: "Such a Pretty Mess." A link is provided on the side bar. There was just enough ribbon left to fold to the center, attach with a stitch and then gather into a bow with wire, and then complete with the WP cameo with a glue dot. The cameo and PRIMA e-line pearls are the only elements I added to this layout that were not included in the kit. The white flowers are also hand cut from one of the patterned papers. The flowers are all PRIMAS.

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit.

I just finished a page using some of the same papers. It will debut on Friday. I see you have the same little bird fetish as I .. he is so pretty I used him 3 times on the one page. Love your ribbon and punchwork! And such cute subjects!

Just gorgeous Jackie! Love all your details! Spectacular stuff. I'm with you on the vellum. I don't know quite what to do with it either. I have those vellum overlays with the Websters, but I just put them aside! Love how you share all your tips on your blog
